The next step in Vivo’s camera-first smartphone line is nearly here. A new leak confirms the Vivo S50 will get a serious internal boost, thanks to Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 processor and a handful of hardware upgrades aimed at users who want flagship power in a smaller frame.
Vivo S50 might skip a generation but not performance
The Vivo S50 series appears to be jumping over the expected “S40” label. That’s not surprising many in Chinese culture consider the number four unlucky. What matters more is what’s under the hood and this time, it’s a leap.
According to trusted leaker Digital Chat Station, Vivo is using the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 in its upcoming S50 lineup. It’s a step above the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 seen in the standard S30 and clearly signals a move toward flagship-grade responsiveness.
Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 brings premium speed to Vivo S50
While it’s not Qualcomm’s most powerful chip (that honor belongs to the 8 Elite Gen 5), the standard Gen 5 still brings major gains. The Vivo S50 should easily outperform the S30 Pro Mini, which relied on MediaTek’s Dimensity 9300 Plus.
This kind of silicon puts it on pace with 2025’s high-performance mid-range phones, and possibly ahead of several flagships depending on thermals and optimization.
Expect familiar sensors and smarter upgrades
Camera hardware might not change radically leaks suggest the Sony IMX882 periscope telephoto sensor will make a return. But don’t mistake that for a stale update. Vivo will swap the optical fingerprint reader for an ultrasonic one and fit a larger battery into the smaller Pro Mini model.
In fact, early tips claim the compact 6.3-inch Vivo S50 Pro Mini could surpass the battery capacity of the top-tier Vivo X300, which already comes with a 6,040 mAh cell.
Vivo S50 release window points to December
The Vivo S50 launch is expected sometime in December 2025, likely in China first. Previous models in the series have launched exclusively in that market, but global versions often follow. For example, Vivo rebranded the S30 Pro Mini and launched it internationally as the X200 FE.
Still, Vivo hasn’t officially confirmed whether the S50 series will follow the same path.
It could be the sleeper hit of winter
The Vivo S50 is shaping up to be one of those rare phones that pack power, portability, and polish into a single frame. If Vivo nails the price and battery claims, this could quietly be one of the best-value phones of the season even if it never leaves China.
Eyes on December.
